Play Therapy

Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child’s natural medium of self expression … It is an opportunity which is given to the child to ‘play out’ his feelings and problems just as in certain types of adult therapy an individual ‘talks out’ his difficulties.”
Virginia Axline

“Play is the child’s symbolic language of self-expression and can reveal (a) what the child has experienced; (b) reactions to what was experienced; (c) feelings about what was experienced; (d) what the child wishes, wants, or needs; and (e) the child’s perception of self.”

Supporting Children, Empowering Families

As a Registered Play Therapist, I offer a compassionate and child-centered approach to help young individuals navigate life’s challenges. Through therapeutic play, children can express themselves, build emotional resilience, and overcome difficulties in a safe and supportive environment.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a research-based therapeutic approach that uses play to communicate with and help children, particularly those who may struggle with verbal expression. It allows children to explore their emotions, cope with trauma, and develop healthier relationships with others. Through a variety of creative techniques—such as storytelling, role-playing, and art—children are empowered to process difficult experiences at their own pace.

Services Offered

  • Individual Play Therapy. Tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, individual sessions provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings and work through personal struggles.
  • Parent Consultation.  Understanding how to support your child’s emotional growth is essential. I offer consultations to help parents better understand their child’s behavior and guide them on how to reinforce the therapeutic work at home.
  • Trauma-Informed Therapy. For children who have experienced trauma, play therapy offers a non-invasive way to process and heal from painful experiences in a way that is developmentally appropriate.
  • Behavioral Challenges. If your child is facing issues like anxiety, depression, anger, or social difficulties, play therapy can offer strategies for improving emotional regulation and social skills.

Why Choose Play Therapy?

  • Effective for Young Children. Children may struggle to express their thoughts and emotions verbally. Play therapy allows them to communicate in a way that feels natural and comfortable.
  • Supports Emotional Development. Play therapy can help children build self-esteem, emotional regulation, and coping skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
  • Research-Based. As a Registered Play Therapist, I adhere to the highest standards of practice, utilizing evidence-based techniques to ensure your child’s emotional growth and healing.
